Incredibly Realistic Wood Carvings Look Good Enough to Eat – My Modern Met
Wood carving artist Seiji Kawasaki has us completely duped with his amazingly realistic food creations. Hand-carving blocks of wood down to perfection, he then paints his pieces to mimic the intricate shading and details that are naturally found in each food item—you would never be able to guess that his sardines started their lives on land instead of sea. Just be careful not to mistake Kawasaki’s creations for the real thing, or you might lose a tooth to a chunk of driftwood that looks a lot like a tempting chocolate bar.The delectable-looking pieces take about 2-3 hours to complete, which is amazing considering the amount of detail apparent within each tiny recreation. While some are just lovely decorative pieces, often he attaches an element of functionality to his carvings, such as turning petite peppers into chopstick rests. Kawasaki’s cunning handiwork demonstrates a high level of artistry (and is also delightfully deceptive). He regularly posts new carvings to his Twitter and…

During sleep, your head turns over right and left, drawing an arc about 30 times. If your head is not rotating smoothly from side-to-side on your pillow, you cannot achieve good quality sleep. KM05 is designed to keep your head in the right position as you rest in order to facilitate its smooth rotation. From the moment you place your head onto it to birdsongs awakening you in the morning, KM05 impeccably supports your a good night’s sleep.

Alluring Illusions of Technicolor Portals Are Actually 2D Wall Paintings
We already know German artist 1010 for his vivid murals, which appear like multilayered, technicolor portals into parallel dimensions. Now, he has opened a new show at Milan’s 10 A.M. ART gallery, with an exhibition that includes not only a mural across the building’s entire exterior in his hallmark style, but also a collection of paintings displayed inside. Though smaller in scale than his street art, these new works might be even more remarkable. The compiled tones pop like paper cuts mounted with spacers in between the different slivers, receding into deep orifices—but in fact, the concave effect is an illusion created by 1010’s careful contrasts of light and shadow, created using nothing more than paint.Selected from several of the artist’s series, with titles including Portal, Limbus, Void, Fluss, and Abyss, some of the pieces present as craggy chasms like sliced geodes, while others take the form of smooth circular holes. Each multi-hued variation demands a closer look,…

Breaking Out Of The Box: Design Inspiration (June 2016)
There’s no doubt that simple design is hard, since it requires much more thought and inspiration. It’s about understanding exactly what your users need. Colors play a major role, and today I’d like to show you a couple of illustrations that may motivate you to try out some new color combinations and techniques. Take a look at the following photographs, posters and book covers that have been created with some really inspiring shades and color palettes, and some even show how to cleverly use negative space. From 3D illustrations to artwork created with ink and watercolors, I’m sure there’s something that’ll spark your inspiration. Be warned though, some of them may even give you wanderlust from just looking at them.
