I Find Pictures Of Lost Memories In Flea Markets And Make Fictional Landscapes

I first started making Fiction Landscapes in 2010 after purchasing a large stack of photographs from the flea market and discovering I could draw a line through time using these discarded traces of the past. In 2012 I addressed memory and its relationship with objects in my Heirlooms body of work that takes a look at objects and their place in our lives emotionally due to their history and our associations with them.

Colourful masses with a Memphis aesthetic in Mariano Pascual’s illustrated alphabet

As humans we have an innate urge to reinvent, this seems especially true for illustrators who continually reinterpret the world in their own way. Mariano Pascual’s response to the open brief 36 Days of Type perfectly encapsulates this notion as he visualises his own typeface. Set up by Nina Sans and “Rafa Goicoechea”:http://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/rafa-goicoechea the ongoing project asks creatives to design or illustrate one letter a day and post it on their Instagram feed.

There Are Only 12 Master Penmen in the World, This Guy Is the Youngest

My grandmother has some of the most beautiful penmanship I have ever seen. Her handwritten letters are something that I’ve always cherished, especially now that our world is becoming increasingly overrun by technology. For centuries, the wealthy and educated were recognized by their ability to create gorgeous handwriting on paper. But these days, handwriting and calligraphy are a dying art form. The act of putting pen to paper is happening less frequently. People would rather reach for a MacBook or iPad to communicate or design. However, the study of handwriting, called graphology, takes a while to master. It also takes passion. Just […]

I Create Illustrative Artworks From Laser Cut Plywood

My main interests have always been drawing, nature and stories and these are the three primary ingredients which I use to create my work. By building up layers of laser cut, stained plywood, I create intricate relief pieces that bridge the gap between craft, illustration and sculpture. These works are essentially drawings that have been brought off the page and into the real world as permanent form of storytelling.

Jony Ive says Steve Jobs films are hijacking his legacy

Share on Facebook (627) Tweet (370) Share (3) Pin For Apple design chief Jony Ive, remembering the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs is not possible without understanding the context of how he worked. It’s been four years since Jobs’ death, the anniversary for which was earlier this week. Ive said today at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit in San Francisco that recent films about Jobs don’t grasp the whole picture. Instead, these efforts are hijacking Jobs legacy “with agendas that are different than those of your close family and your friends,” he said.Ive said that the “ridiculous things” that have been written about Jobs were not written with Apple’s creative process in mind. “Try to remember what he was doing and that he was having arguments with chip designers on this side and thermal engineers on that side,” he said. Ive added that Jobs’ propensity for shutting people down was a product of his ability to focus. “It doesn’t mean that you’re an asshole,” he said. “It doesn’t mean that your hobby is arguing.”

It’s Nice That | Lukas Ackermann’s playfully abstract identity for new Zurich culture hub

Swiss graphic designer Lukas Ackermann has created this colourful visual identity for the Toni-Areal, a new area of development in Zurich that used to be an old milking factory. Emulating simple building blocks and abstract shapes, _Creative City_ feels like a playful blueprint of the various structures set to be built in the area. As well as posters, billboards, print ads and paper bags, Lukas has even designed accompanying sugar packets which look like cute little bricks. Muted primary colours prevent it from looking garish, but give it enough punch that it stands out in magazine spreads and on billboards next to grey buildings.
